Once a year during the Halloween season, Pastor Josh allows his Drama Team to pick whatever costume they like from his inventory and then he has to write a play utilizing all the chosen characters. This year proved to be particularly challenging and took three days to write. Those involved as actors included:
Julia Smith, as Cinderella
Ashley Boichot, as Dorothy
Bailey Small, as Annie
Kaitlyn Artiles, as Grettle / Orphan
Amber Scaff, as Comic Book Nerd
Jordan Enriques, as the Mascot Dog
Crystal Lillo, as a Cheerleader
Karla Sandoval, as a Pirate
LaReina Rankin, as a 50's Girl
Grace Lee, as an Eskimo
The storyline ended up centering on the topic of Home. Four of our characters had situations involving living conditions in their Disney or book story lines. Dorothy lost a good house, Grettle escaped to a candy house, Annie lived in an orphanage, and Cinderella lived in a bad house. This concept unified the plot and all the characters ended up embarking on a search for a real home, not just a house. In the end they learn that their true home is not of this world but is in their next life, should they choose to believe and accept it. Heaven was then explained to the travelers and our audience and how one can get there.
The week after the show, Pastor Josh followed up by sharing a favorite lesson with the children called, "What's in Heaven and What's Not."
