Vacation Bible School 2011

This year's theme was all about cooking! On our Kickoff Night, all attendees got to attend a culinary institute for kids where they got to learn how to make and decorate different kids of things.

All participants got to experience live food decorating and cooking demostrations, learn through hands on instructions from special guests, and enjoy food tastings. Special guests to our event included: Norman Davis and Zane Beg: Food Network Challenge and TLC Ultimate Cakeoff decorating participants and winners, Dianna Lopez: TLC Ultimate Cakeoff decorating participant and decorator at the famous Carlo's Bakery, and James Parker: Food Network food carving Challenges and shows such as Chef vs. City.

Kids also got to go back in time to the days of Christ and explore the food festivals and celebrations found during Jesus' time as they walk through Nazareth, experiencing the sights and sounds of a 2,000 year old bustling city!

In our Nazareth marketplace, kids got to choose from a variety of back-to-the-Bible things to engage in each night. Their choices included:
The Soap Shop
Candle Making
Basket Weaving
The Spice Shop
The Bead Bazaar
The Leather and Carpentry Shop
The Pottery Tent
Loom Weaving

Kids also got to hear amazing Bible stories in the Tabernacle and Synagogue and bake and eat Biblical foods in the Bakery and Food Market. There was also an opening and closing Rally in our sanctuary that featured energetic music, puppets, funny videos, and our Missions challenge. This year our Missions challenge was to bring in food for the local DC Area Food Bank and collectively our kids were able to bring in over 800 lbs of food in 5 days. Good job everyone!
