December is always a special month in KidsTown!<br />
This month was kicked off on the 1st with a special story entitled "The Christmas Orange" that taught the children the value in giving to those less fortunate and appreciating the things God has blessed them with. Each child was also given an orange in challenge to seek out some way this holiday season for them to give back to those less fortunate in appreciation for all God has done for them!<br />
<br />
On the 8th, we will be sharing another great story on giving entitled "The Sparkle Box" and following this on the 15th we will be doing our annual, full length Christmas Production. This year our show is a spiritual rewrite on the classic story by Hans Christian Anderson entitled, "The Little Match Girl."<br />
<br />
There is actually a lot more going on than just this so we encourage you to download the month calendar <a href="https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=sites&srcid=ZGVmYXVsdGRvbWFpbnxraWRzdG93bmZpbGVzfGd4OjM3MzY1ZjBlMDNkYWZmYzQ">here</a> and check it all out!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-495546497840429490.post-67249855526696653512013-10-02T13:58:00.000-04:002013-10-02T16:28:36.321-04:00Sam<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This year was all about knights and princesses and castles and dragons! Capital Baptist Church went back in time to the Middle Ages and medieval times! Kids came dressed as warriors and fair maidens and princesses and enjoyed five great evenings of music, fun skits and stories, snacks, activities, and exciting shows! Extra special for the Preschoolers, they got to meet "Pickles" the Dragon during the opening stage show and for the Elementary, they meet Sir Blackwolf and Dame Dagryning of Medieval Fantasies Company and watched as they taught and performed life and society and war of the medieval ages! You can see more photos and video of our VBS on our KidsTown facebook page. Just search "Kidstown" and then locate Capital Baptist and then "like" the page.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Newcomer Kaitlyn Artiles hit a home run with her performance as Vanellope von Schweetz and veteran performer Evan Granrud put in his best performance yet. Each character played their role beautifully and hit all their lines helping us get our main message through to our audience making this one of the best actor performances by the whole team to date. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Vanellope and Ralph both learned that what they each had for their lives was part of the Master Programmer's (God's) plan for their lives and that what they perceived as glitches were really gifts, which in turn made them winners.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There was so much important and valuable words spoken through the characters in this particular play, we hope that you got to see it and took away something for your own life from it!</div>

<br />
There have been many requests over the last couple months for Pastor Josh to do a baptism for a child, either by parent request or the child's. Normally this is the role our Senior Pastor plays but we have worked out an arrangement that I will attempt to do a couple baptism opportunities each year, right now, one in the spring and one probably in the fall. Now, any child can request to be baptized any time of the year and Pastor Steve will perform the ceremony, but if they specifically want Pastor Josh to perform the ceremony, here is your first chance! In order to be baptized, the child must first schedule a visit with Pastor Josh to discuss baptism and Pastor Josh will only baptize children (6th grade and below). If you have a child that is considering baptism and wants Pastor Josh to perform the ceremony, your first (and only for a while!) opportunity will be MARCH 3 at 9:30am. If you are interested please call Pastor Josh to schedule a visit. You can also reply to this post and he will call you. Pastor Steve will also probably be doing an Easter Service baptism as this is a popularly requested date. You can also contact us if you are interested in this specific date.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
In KTL we love celebrating birthdays! Last year, we showed our appreciation to our volunteer performers and stage crew by remembering each of their birthdays in a special way during their birthday month.<br />
One of the most memorable was Evan Granrud's birthday in which we did a parody of the book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" and retitled it "If You Give Evan a Cookie." For those who attend KTL, they know all about Evan and his love of cookies!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This holiday season, the KidsTown Live! performing crew got together to throw one great holiday party for all the kids that come and see them so faithfully each week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As part of the deal, the kids got to vote on which characters they wanted each of our actors to come back as during the celebration. Among the cast, was Pocahontas, the Queen of Hearts, Candace, Lucy, Blueberry Muffin, Merida, Dory, Molly Mahoney, and a Ninja among others! Each character was put to task to find out the history behind one aspect of our holiday celebration, whether it was the Christmas stocking, the tree, the mistletoe, or Santa Claus. Each actor's findings were shared with the kids. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also there was food that was themed to each actor at various tables that the kids got to rotate around to and sample, for example, there was shark head watermelon at Dory's table and granola for Pocahontas and at Candace's table there were corn dogs in honor of Mr Slushy Burger. Molly had a chocolate fondu fountain and the medieval table with Merida had sausage and ale (ginger ale, that is!). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One final special treat that the children got to enjoy was a special full length puppet show by our good friend Matthew Chandler, who came back for a visit and brought with him all our beloved friends from Pester and Rocky to Arnold and of course, Grandma Stewmaker. Another special guest, Sam, brought with him Chewy to assist (or should we say wreck havoc) in the puppet show.</div>

This year proved to be particularly challenging and took three days to write. Those involved as actors included:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Julia Smith, as Cinderella</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ashley Boichot, as Dorothy</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bailey Small, as Annie</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kaitlyn Artiles, as Grettle / Orphan</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Amber Scaff, as Comic Book Nerd</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Jordan Enriques, as the Mascot Dog</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Crystal Lillo, as a Cheerleader</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Karla Sandoval, as a Pirate</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
LaReina Rankin, as a 50's Girl</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Grace Lee, as an Eskimo</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The storyline ended up centering on the topic of Home. Four of our characters had situations involving living conditions in their Disney or book story lines. Dorothy lost a good house, Grettle escaped to a candy house, Annie lived in an orphanage, and Cinderella lived in a bad house. This concept unified the plot and all the characters ended up embarking on a search for a real home, not just a house. In the end they learn that their true home is not of this world but is in their next life, should they choose to believe and accept it. Heaven was then explained to the travelers and our audience and how one can get there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The week after the show, Pastor Josh followed up by sharing a favorite lesson with the children called, "What's in Heaven and What's Not."</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
This year's VBS was one for the ages! In celebration of Pastor Josh's five years of service at CBC (and thus five completed VBS themes), the children took a time traveling journey back in time to revisit and relive all their favorite memories from the last five years of VBS here at Capital. HG Wellsworth, an eccentric high school professor set out to find the meaning of real living and its source which he believed happened over 2000 years ago around the year 4 AD (according to his extensive research of course!). With the help of his time machine (cranky and cluttered and barely functional at times) HG and his class students travel back in time each day of VBS ultimately reliving one of the old VBS themes from 2007-2011. There was reliving <i>Finding Nemo</i> from 2010, and working out with Tom and doing the "Sprinkler" exercise from 2007. There was also a science demonstration with the Great Scott from 2008 and a <i>Shake it Up</i> song with Kaitlyn and Nerissa from 2011. On the final day, the class students and HG work together and end up in the Safari of 2009 and they encounter old friends, Amy the jeep driver and Joe Bruce, the wild animal balloon hunter. It is here that they find the source of really living when Joe shows them an old Bible. They also realize that they don't have to go back 2000 years to discover real life but that it can be discover right in their present year 2012 and on into the future until Jesus returns!<br />
<br />
It is with a very special thanks to everyone who returned for this special event and made memories with us one more time in our reunion-based theme!<br />

Preschoolers also received a special treat this year with special guest performances from Kendall Wilkerson and Joshua Rueda who brought their puppetry skills to the show, performing several puppet skits and songs including <i>Spinning Around</i> and <i>Dive</i>. Their humorous skit skit with their two kid characters Kendall and Buzz and the toilet paper was a crowd favorite. The preschoolers also liked the swimming fish in the song <i>Dive</i>. The Great Scott and Joe Bruce also brought their talents to the stage with some of their science tricks and puppets. </div>

Our parody parables are earthly stories that have be rewritten with a heavenly meaning. Mulan's story was about finding identity and honor. Mulan's search leads her through some right choices and some wrong ones, through a matchmaker calamity and a training camp filled with other girls destined to become the next line of soldiers in the Emperor's imperial army. In the end, Mulan finds what she was looking for with the prayers of her father and the guidance of others around her.<br />

In an response towards justice, the film did go on to receive two Christian and family film awards. Earlier this summer, Pastor Josh came across this film in a thrift store sales bin and decided to pick it up and see if there was anything to it. The film turned out to be the perfect backdrop for this year's KidsTown Live Christmas production.<br /><br />Pastor Josh took the film and re-enacted it with his cast and crew and then added on a new chapter to the story. In the original film, a magical toymaker and store owner named Magorium passes on his store to a reluctant apprentice, Molly Mahoney. He challenges her to believe in herself and to write a new chapter in her life and the life of the store. The story ends here in the film and so Pastor Josh wrote on the end a new chapter which Molly writes in the life of the store. <br /><br />The setting takes place at Christmas and Molly and her little helper, Noelle, challenge each other to bring back the true spirit of Christmas through giving and teaching the children how to give to others at Christmas through such efforts as the Angel Tree and Operation Christmas Shoebox.<br /><br />The performing cast, lead by Gloria Fortune who played the role of Molly Mahoney and Bailey Small who played her helper Noelle did an amazing job! <br /><br />A special thanks to everyone who made the day very special for our audience:<br /><br />Magorium: Matthew Chandler<br />Narrator: Ashley Boichot<br />Ballerina: Emma Tompkins<br />Toy Soldier: Caleb Small<br />Raggedy Ann: Destinee Lampman<br />Orphan Child: Angel English<br />Mother and Child: Amy Leslie and Andrew Friedly<br />Checkers Child: Jasmine Mann<br />Legos Child: Sihun Kim<br />Painter: Rachel Elfman<br />Pop up Books Child: Sion Kim<br />Marionette Child: Chryne Lillo<br />Hula Hoop Child: Kaitlyn Artiles<br /><br />Crew:<br />Amy Small, script<br />Amy Leslie, backstage<br />Carrie Pearson, decoration and performance<br />Julia Smith<br />Karla Sandoval<br />Sarah Hill<br />Pearl and Grace Lee, music<br />Chris Hill, lighting<br />Kamol Khamphong, audio and soundtrack<br />Allen Boichot, video<br />Randy Ritter, photography<br /><br /><p><br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyfxSes-winCib3b_LM3AZj32zAQisucFuSjqKv_OOcHhboOr3ONpKUCsFsJ94oMGQLQuwHFiElFghZo46rjQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></p><br /><br /><p>If you wish to see more photos, please log on to our Snapfish account. This year's play was entitled "The Christmas Post." Many of our children made special cameo appearances in this Christmas production as well, playing the role of Newsboys delivering the Christmas Post. One of our young youth, Leanna Eagy, played one of the lead roles this year. Everything was moved inside and fun was had by all. This year's food fare included a new idea: bar-b-que sliders which were a big hit. We also served the traditional cotton candy, popcorn, and giant pretzels. Children went home with painted faces, big bags of candy, and great prizes including funky erasers, silly bouncy balls, and giant inflatable hammers.<br />Here are few photos from the event:<br /><br /><embed height="267" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" width="400" src="https://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf" flashvars="host=picasaweb.google.com&hl=en_US&feat=flashalbum&RGB=0x000000&feed=https%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Fdata%2Ffeed%2Fapi%2Fuser%2F1kingzkidz%2Falbumid%2F5675663300175599665%3Falt%3Drss%26kind%3Dphoto%26hl%3Den_US"></embed><br /><br />For more photos, please log in to our Snapfish account and find the festival folders. <br />Kids also got to go back in time to the days of Christ and explore the food festivals and celebrations found during Jesus' time as they walk through Nazareth, experiencing the sights and sounds of a 2,000 year old bustling city!

<br />In our Nazareth marketplace, kids got to choose from a variety of back-to-the-Bible things to engage in each night. Their choices included:
<br />The Soap Shop
<br />Candle Making
<br />Basket Weaving
<br />The Spice Shop
<br />The Bead Bazaar
<br />The Leather and Carpentry Shop
<br />The Pottery Tent
<br />Loom Weaving
<br />
<br />Kids also got to hear amazing Bible stories in the Tabernacle and Synagogue and bake and eat Biblical foods in the Bakery and Food Market. There was also an opening and closing Rally in our sanctuary that featured energetic music, puppets, funny videos, and our Missions challenge. This year our Missions challenge was to bring in food for the local DC Area Food Bank and collectively our kids were able to bring in over 800 lbs of food in 5 days. Good job everyone!
